NFT Draft Basketball (NDB) Overview.
NDB is NFTDraft’s second game. Their first game is NFT Draft Football (NDF), an American Football game that launched in 2021. Both games are fantasy sport style games where NFTs are used to enter lineups of players and are scored based on their real life performance during that time period. Similar to SoRare, which also has different sport variants on their product.
Launch Timeline
NDB had a beta launch (with smaller prizes) scheduled for Nov. 7th but it slipped and is now targeted for Nov. 9th, 2023. The full release is targeted for the following week.
Player NFT Details
NFTs are based on specific positions and depth charts on NBA teams. For example, “Philadelphia C #1” is the starting Center for the 76ers, typically Joel Embiid. Each NFT will receive a score based on their real life performance.
Card art is determined by the spot in the depth chart. Starters have action shots whereas other players are standing. NFTs that have a point value over 20 have either confetti or lightning added to the art.
NFTs have a static point value between 1 and 22 when released, which is determined before the season and is used towards a “salary cap” when entering tournaments. The team reserves the right to change point values, but that has not happened thus far in NDF.
There are 5 rarities: Common, Standout, Team Captain, MVP, and GOAT. Each with cosmetic borders and with varying score boosters. For example, Common NFTs have a gray border and do not receive a score boost and do not have a point value reduction. However, GOAT NFTs have a red and gold border and have a +5% score boost and have a point value reduced by 2.
If a user has 3 NFTs of the same team, position, depth, and rarity then they can be burned to create a NFT of the same values except with rarity of the next tier. NFT Draft Basketball is also introducing a new “direct upgrade system” which will instead have a cost with costs yet to be revealed but likely priced in $WAX.
To maintain balance, NFTs get a 3% scoring penalty every year after their first. For example, at the start of year 4, all year 3 cards will get a 3% scoring reduction and all year 2 cards will get a 6% scoring reduction. In the future there will be gold foil NFTs which will be excluded from any scoring reduction penalties. Gold foiling has yet to launch in NFT Draft Basketball, but in NDF each NFT gets 1 free roll to get a gold foil and then users can pay for additional rolls.
NDB NFT Pack Drops.
Two varieties with differing prices, amount of NFTs, and guaranteed rarities.
- Captain Pack. Has 121 NFTs and guarantees a “Captain” rarity NFT.
- NFT Draft Pack. Has 21 NFTs and guarantees a “Standout” rarity NFT.
Pack Drop Schedule
Pack Drop #1 was Nov. 2nd, 2023 and sold out 250 packs in 2 days for $22,800.
- Captain Pack: 175 packs priced at $120 each for a total revenue of $21,000.
- NFT Draft Pack: 75 packs priced at $24 each for a total revenue of $1,800.
Pack Drop #2 is targeted for Nov. 9th, 2023 with supply and price TBD.
Pack Drop #3 is TBD and conditional on Pack Drop #2 selling out. Final Pack Drop.
As of Nov. 8, 2023 there were 83 users with a NDB Player NFT.
NFT Tournament Details
Tournaments are the core utility for NDB NFTs and they occur weekly. Roughly three or four tournaments are scheduled each week. And a tournament entry consists of 9 NFTs with a total point value between 90 and 120. The first week of fully functioning tournaments will launch November 13th.
There are a variety of tournament types that have both free and paid entries or a combination of free and paid entries. As well as different types of payout structures (e.g. “Double or Nothing” or Top 25% Paid)
There are currently 4 tournament types:
- Free entries with a guarantee of $500+ worth of $WAX that is paid to the top 25% scoring entries.
- Entry fee of $3 worth of $WAX and pays out 95% of the entry fees to the top 25% of scoring entries.
- Free entries with prizes set by the tournament sponsor. For the first 2 weeks, Wombat will be providing $500 worth of $WOMBAT.
- Entry of $5 of $WAX where the top half of entries win $10 worth of $WAX.
